SMART PARKING
SMART PARKING
2008
Idea:
Change the planning rules, especially for landmark, single use buildings such as hospitals, schools, supermarkets, etc.
1: Change the standard parking layout requirements. These are currently a standard 2400mm x 4800mm. They should be different sizes in different locations on a site or road, allowing smaller cars to park closer to the main building entrances.
2. Zone car parks and streets with CO2 category spaces. The higher a car’s carbon footprint, the further away from ‘destination’ it has to park.
3. (Not a planning issue). Change the way pay parking in Bristol works, again by charging more for various bands of CO2 emission. This could apply to street parking, or car parks.
4. Ban cars that use produce over a certain amount of CO2 from parking on-street.
Benefits:
Over time, smaller, more fuel efficient cars. Less pollution. More parking space.

Energy efficient parking spaces:
Distance to your desk space is inversely proportioned to energy size. Smart cars nearest; gas guzzling monsters furthest.
Objective:
Encourage use of more CO2 efficient vehicles by making it harder to use cars that pollute.
